Huawei Caught Misleading Consumers In Nova 3 Ad Campaign

Huawei Nova 3 Ad Campaign

The latest Huawei Nova 3 ad campaign is causing a stir, but why?

Firstly, it’s good to know that the Chinese telecoms maker has been in trouble before for its advertising. Specifically, the technology giant had altered camera-picture-quality using photoshop in previous phone advertisements for its P8 and P9 models.

Pretending its phone cameras are more impressive than they really are, seems to be something of a trend for the company and in its latest campaign for the brands Nova 3 phone, Huawei (SZ:002502) has been caught again.

Huawei Nova 3 Ad Campaign: What’s Happening?

The new ad features a couple taking a selfie. We — the audience — see them through the lens of the supposed Nova 3 phone that the man is supposedly holding whilst taking this supposed “selfie”.

Of course, the quality of the taken picture is so incredible that you’d be forgiven for thinking the phone didn’t take the picture at all.

Oh wait, though…it didn’t.

Oops It Did It Again

Thanks to a slip-up from the ads leading actress, Huawei has found itself in an embarrassing situation as a behind-the-scenes snap posted on her Instagram, shows a top of the line DSLR camera taking the photos and not the Nova 3 phone. It also shows the lead actor (who, remember, is supposed to be taking the selfie) is actually holding… nothing.

Huawei has yet to comment on the incident, and whilst the company has never explicitly said that the advert was shot on the Nova 3, the advertisement is completely misleading to the consumer.

Now that the pretty blatant lie is out there I wonder will it pull down the ad or maybe Huawei will simply hope it blows over.
