Back in January, Amazon (NASDAQ:$AMZN) expressed plans to increase its workforce by another 100,000 employees in the U.S. by the middle of 2018. Such an increase would bring the company’s total U.S. workforce to more than 280,000 employees.
In efforts to reach their goal, the Seattle tech giant announced today that it plans to hire another 50,000 employees at its job fair on August 2nd.
With Amazon prepared to hand out thousands of on-the-spot offers, many of these positions will aid in the preparation of packages for shipment across its U.S. fulfillment network. Additionally, employees will work on sorting and customer service at the company’s fulfillment centers.
In what has been deemed “Amazon’s Jobs Day” Amazon will be hiring across ten of its sorting centres, and will be prepared to hand out thousands of offers on the spot. Although many of these positions are to aid in the preparation and sorting of packages, as well as providing customer service at fulfillment centers, there are also some management roles to be filled.
Full time positions at Amazon offer a bevy of benefits, including health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans, as well as company stock. For part-time employees that work an excess of 20 hours per week, Amazon also offers life and disability insurance, dental and vision insurance, while also providing funding towards medical insurance. Of the positions open, 80% have been defined as full-time, while 20% are said to be part-time.
Amazon will be hosting its Aug. 2nd job fair starting from 8 a.m to noon local time at various company centers across the country. A list of cities where Amazon is hosting its “biggest hiring event of the year”:
- Baltimore, Maryland
- Chattanooga, Tennessee
- Etna, Ohio
- Fall River, Massachusetts
- Hebron, Kentucky
- Kenosha, Wisconsin
- Kent, Washington
- Robbinsville, New Jersey
- Romeoville, Illinois
- Whitestown, Indiana
Additionally, off-site events will be hosted for those looking for part-time employment in Buffalo, New York and Oklahoma City.
These aren’t the end of Amazon’s plans for expansion this year, however, as the company announced back in April that it is prepared to hire 30,000 more part time workers over the next year for warehouse roles.
