Most people are aware of the fact that artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting different industries, and it now looks like the travel sector is its next victim. On Monday, July 31, Avis Car Rental – whose parent company is Avis Budget Group (NASDAQ:$CAR) – disclosed that it is leveraging AI to enhance customer adventures and journeys by being the first rental car company to introduce a Google Assistant action for Google Home, which will be available in August.

“At Avis, our goal is to use AI technology to create a more intuitive and seamless user experience for our customers that significantly differentiates us. Machine learning allows us to anticipate our customers’ needs and questions, based on their Avis Preferred profile, so they can get what they need faster,” said Arthur Orduna, who is the Chief Innovation Officer at Avis Budget Group. “The Avis Google Assistant action changes the way travelers can interact and transact with us before, during, and after their car rental journey.”

Now that the news has been released, many are left wondering about the benefits of Avis’ new Google assistant action. According to the rental car company, it has been designed to help save time through more immediate access to the booking and reservation process. To simplify, it will give travelers instant, voice controlled access to the car rental booking process. Travelers will be able to use Google Home to schedule or change current reservations and review past trips.

The new Google Assistant action is available to travelers that are enrolled in Avis Preferred, which is the Company’s free express rental and loyalty program. How does it work? The AI technology will use preferences stored in a customer’s Avis Preferred profile, which could refer to everything from car preference to GPS devices.

For those who don’t know, Avis Car Rental is one of the best-known car rental brands in the world, with roughly 5,500 locations in approximately 170 countries. Mentioned briefly, it is owned by Avis Budget Group, which operates and licenses the brand throughout the globe.
