Cisco Looks to Expand to Cloud Systems with Acquisition of Observable Networks, Inc.

Cisco Systems

Citing the importance of network security and responsibility throughout its IT systems, as well as the growing prevalence of public cloud systems and branch environments, Cisco (NASDAQ:$CSCO) recently announced that it is planning to purchase Observable Networks (privately traded). Observable Networks is a software company that provides security services using endpoint modeling.

The technology that Observable Networks utilizes helps provide security analysts with the situation of all users, devices, and traffic on the network – either in data centers or the cloud – in real time. Its cloud-centred machine learning techniques for the behavioral modeling of all devices on the network allows for faster and more accurate identifications of possible internal and external threats. Observable Network’s security design is supported by cloud systems and can be enabled by those who use Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

With the acquisition, Cisco hopes to further improve its Stealthwatch solution and extend it to cloud systems with highly adaptable behavior analytics and broad visibility. Cisco’s purchase of Observable Networks shows its commitment towards providing consumers with top-of-the-line security solutions and network safety. The acquisition also provides Cisco with a better transition into software-centric solutions.

Observable Networks will be integrated into Cisco’s Security Business Group after the acquisition. Cisco expects the acquisition deal with Observable Networks to be closed by the first quarter of 2018.
