Here’s What People Are Saying About the iPhone 8

By now, most people are aware that Apple (NASDAQ:$AAPL) has released the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. And on Tuesday, September 19, reviews of the two new iPhones hit the market with a common theme: hold off for the iPhone 10.

Here’s what the public is saying about the iPhone 8:

Geoffrey Fowler of the Wall Street Journal has said this is “not the upgrade you’re looking for,” and added that, while there are fun new features for photos and augmented reality, the differences aren’t enough to cause an individual to upgrade from the iPhone 7.

“Apple’s confusing iPhone family now includes three pairs of practically identical phones: the regular and Plus versions of the iPhone 8, 7 and 6s. Don’t buy the spendiest one.”

Additionally, The Verge’s Nilay Patel said the phone shows that Apple’s design has “stood still for four years.” Patel also noted that the process of wireless charging is still extremely slow, even though Apple plans to improve that with a software update. “It’s an iPhone,” Patel concluded.

Farhad Manjoo of The New York Times noted that the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are “overshadowed by the $1,000 all-screen iPhone X.”

“The 8s feel like a swan song — or, to put it another way, they represent Apple’s platonic ideal of that first iPhone, an ultimate refinement before eternal retirement.”

Ed Baig of USA Today believes the newest model is “an excellent phone forced to the shadows by the iPhone X,” and BuzzFeed’s Nicole Nguyen headlined her review: “TBH, The iPhone 8 should really be called the 7S.”

The takeaway? While some reviewers love the phone, others seem a tad bit bored by it. Therefore, if you’re looking for the latest computer hardware technology, you might want to wait for the iPhone X, otherwise known as the iPhone 10.
