Intel (NASDAQ:$INTC) has just announced that it will be working with Audi (ETR:$NSU) to produce chips for the automobile company’s self-driving 2018 Audi A8, according to Silicon Valley Business Journal. Audi, distributed under Volkswagen Group (ETR:$VOW3), have already released a vehicle with level 3 autonomous driving earlier this month – the Audi A8 luxury sedan. Level 3 autonomous driving means that the vehicle can be driven automatically under specific traffic conditions or environments. The driver is still present in level 3 autonomous driving. Besides that feature, the Audi A8 luxury sedan also has active electronic suspension, a hybrid engine, and a brand new infotainment system.

Audi board member Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter commented on Audi’s aggressive move into autonomous driving, saying, “It embodies our heritage as well as our future.”

Following the news, Intel’s stock traded at a higher price during mid-morning trading. Intel closed at $34.67 after a 0.45% rise on July 25.
