Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT)


has

announced

that it has helped over 30 million individuals in 249 countries and territories gain access to digital skills.  This topped its initial goal of 25 million last June and is extending the company commitment to help 250,000 companies make a skill based hire in 2021.  Retail associates, truck drivers and laid off factory workers are amongst those millions that have taken advantage of online courses from GitHub, Microsoft and LinkedIn during the pandemic.  These courses have been used to prepare and secure the most in demand roles which include project management, customer service and data analysis.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen the pandemic hit people who can bear it the least,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith. “We are doubling down at LinkedIn and across Microsoft with new work to support a more inclusive skills-based labor market, creating more alternatives, greater flexibility, and accessible learning paths that connect these more readily with new jobs.”

LinkedIn plans to aid 250,000 companies make skill based hires through new and existing products.  It plans to provide new ways for job seekers to demonstrate skills and tools for employers to connect candidates based on their skill proficiencies.
