President Trump to Sign “Space Policy Directive 1” Today, Here’s Why This is a Monumental Move

Space Policy Directive 1

According to the White House, President Trump is scheduled to sign a directive on Monday that is aimed at sending Americans back to the moon, and, if all goes as planned, eventually to Mars.

Spokesman Hogan Gidley disclosed that Trump will sign “Space Policy Directive 1” today, which orders NASA “to lead an innovative space exploration program to send American astronauts back to the Moon, and eventually Mars.”

The president’s move, according to Gidley, comes from recommendations from the National Space Council. However, some speculate that Trump is only signing this directive because he wants to be known for sending Americans back to the moon during his presidency.

In a statement, Gidley said, “He will change our nation’s human spaceflight policy to help America become the driving force for the space industry, gain new knowledge from the cosmos, and spur incredible technology.”

Regardless of President Trump’s intentions behind this move, it would be pretty monumental to have a country send people to Mars.
