Subaru (OTCMKTS: FUJHY)
is recalling 271,694 SUVs amid the risk of fire. The automaker is set to recall the 2019 through 2022 Ascents after receiving two fires, though no injuries were reported.
According to a company statement, an electrical grounding bolt connected to the SUV’s cabin heating system may have been poorly installed. The oversight can cause the grounding terminal and surrounding parts to melt and increase the risk of fire when the vehicle’s PTC heater is on.
In a press release, Subaru stated it would contact vehicle owners that could be affected by the issue, and that they are
“announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to contact an authorized Subaru retailer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Subaru of America.”
Additionally, they also said “Subaru retailers will replace the PTC Heater Ground Bolts and replace the ground wire and connector holder if necessary,” at no expense to customers.
If drivers witness any smoke or odors emitting from the vehicle’s dashboard or footwell, Subaru advises that they immediately pull over, turn off the ignition and call the automakers Roadside Assistance.
