Jim DuBois, Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:$MSFT) chief information officer (CIO), has just left Microsoft after almost 14 years with the company, GeekWire recently reported. DuBois started out at Microsoft back in 1993 and assumed the CIO position in 2013. As CIO, DuBois lead and was responsible for the tech company’s internal IT organization.
News of DuBois’ departure followed just a day after Microsoft announced that it will be laying off thousands of employees in its attempt to focus its sales efforts on cloud computing. It remains unclear whether or not DuBois leaving is connected to Microsoft’s announcement yesterday.
For now, Kurt Delbene, Microsoft’s head of corporate strategy, will assume DuBois’ CIO duties. Investors shouldn’t be too concerned at DuBois’ absence as Delbene has been at Microsoft for a while now as well. He has even worked as part of the Obama administration, leading Healthcare.gov which aided in the promotion and services under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Despite taking over for DuBois, Delbene will not be taking the title of CIO. Instead, Delbene will be using a new title: chief digital officer (CDO). As CDO, not only will Delbene oversee Microsoft’s IT department, he will so aid in the company’s attempt to modernize the practices of the internal IT organization.
