Apple (NASDAQ:$AAPL) has apparently decided to up its iPhone game from wireless earphones to wireless charging. According to Nikkei, CEO and president of iPhone assembly company Wistron (TPE:$3231) revealed the detail at a recent shareholder meeting — pretty much confirming rumors that the new Apple iPhone will include wireless charging.

Nikkei reported that Hwang was talking about the assembly process for the new phones. He said that while it hasn’t changed much from previous iPhones, different features such as waterproof functions and wireless charging will require different testing and some alterations to the assembly process.

The current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are both water-resistant, so it is unclear why assembly processes will be altered for the waterproof function. It is probable that the new iPhones will be better able to withstand and survive longer periods of water exposure.

As for the wireless charging technology, there are currently two industry standards: Qi and PMA. The tech which includes a pad that people could put their phones on in order to charge it. Most current smartphones, like the Galaxy S8, are supported by both Qi and PMA chargers. It is currently unclear which one Apple will support, especially given the company’s track record of rejecting industry standards.

When reached out for further details and confirmation of these new features, an Apple spokesperson was not available for comment.
