If you check your Facebook mobile messenger, you might notice an extra tab named “groups”. This is because Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:$FB) wants you to see it, highlighting the importance of your group affairs, and how Facebook may be the forum for your group chats.
The new feature, along with facebook’s subtle prompts for you to create “groups” with friends of similar interests, is a direct result of the technology industry giant’s attempt at fostering a more collaborative environment. It is to no surprise that such a strong push comes from the CEO himself, as Zuckerberg states in his manifesto:
“Facebook stands for bringing us closer together and building a global community”
Apart from displaying just the current chats that users are already in, a new “Discover” feature, also allows users to join new communities according to their interests or needs. This feature seems to be functioning as intended, evidenced by another portion of Zuckerberg’s manifesto:
“For example, many new parents tell us that joining a parenting group after having a child fits this purpose.”
Facebook Inc shares traded at -1.14%, falling $1.70 in premarket trading on Monday. The trend continues into the afternoon, with the technology stock trading at -1.50% at 2:17 PM EDT. Facebook has gained 30.03% year-to-date, which is well above the 8.33% gain realized by the S&P 500 during the same period.
