Trump-Putin Summit Happening Next Month: US Playing with Fire

Trump-Putin summit

It’s happening. The Trump-Putin summit is really happening.

On Thursday, the world was given the latest update on the summit, with the White House confirming that a date and location have been set – a clear sign that neither leader has any current plans to drop out.

The Trump-Putin Summit is On

There’s been a lot of Russia talk this week. Yesterday, Trump said that it was a good thing for everybody to get along with Russia. And roughly twenty-four hours later, the White House published a statement confirming the Trump-Putin summit.

Here’s what we know:

– The Trump-Putin summit is going to take place in Helsinki, Finland. The date, so long as nothing changes, is July 16th, 2018.

– The two leaders, according to the statement, will be discussing the relationship between Russia and the United States. Moreover, they will discuss national security issues.

A Long Time Coming

The news of a Trump-Putin summit is not new. In fact, the timing of the announcement makes a lot of sense.

Over the past few days, John Bolton, US National Security Adviser, has been camped out in Moscow, talking with various Russian officials. Why? Bolton has been laying the groundwork and preparing for the Trump-Putin summit.

Note that this is not the first time the Russian leader has met with Trump. Last year, they met twice, but only for a short amount of time. It was clear they both wanted a full-fledged summit, but that didn’t happen due to public outcry.

That doesn’t matter anymore, though. The meeting has a date and location, and just as we saw with the North Korea summit, it’s going to happen, whether there is tension in the days leading up to the meeting or not.

Trump-Putin Summit: The Takeaway

How do you feel about the US president and the Russian president meeting up? If there’s a stream of the meeting – like there was when Trump met Kim Jong-un – would you watch it?
