3 Major U.S. Charities Just Walked Away From President Trump

By now, most people should be aware that a number of CEOs have walked away from various advisory councils for President Donald Trump. And now, some of the most well-known charities in America are also leaving the president stranded.

On Friday, The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross, and the Susan G. Komen foundation all announced that they will be cancelling events at Trump’s Palm Beach property Mar-a-Lago. Today’s news comes after three organizations made similar announcements on Thursday.

For those who don’t know, here’s a rundown on the latest White House drama:

  • Numerous CEOs have left their positions in the president’s business councils this week after Trump insisted that counter-protesters shared the blame for violence at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
  • Trump dissolved two of his advisory councils this week as he didn’t want to “put pressure on businesspeople.” However, this was an extraordinary rebuke for the president. Why? Trump takes a lot of pride in the fact that he is “business-friendly.”

And now, Trump’s words are not only affecting the citizens he promised to serve and protect, but also his own businesses.

“The American Red Cross has decided we cannot host our annual fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago, as it has increasingly become a source of controversy and pain for many of our volunteers, employees and supporters,” the organization said Friday morning.

Further, The Red Cross said it “provides assistance without discrimination to all people in need, regardless of nationality, race, religious beliefs, or political opinions, and we must be clear and unequivocal in our defense of that principle.”

Based on the Palm Beach Daily News social events calendar, The Red Cross was scheduled to host its International Red Cross Ball at the resort on February 3 of next year.
