Nvidia Corp Announces New Configuration of the Shield TV

Shield TV

Did you forget that the 4K version of the Apple TV comes out tomorrow? Because Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:$NVDA) certainly didn’t. In an attempt to get a jump on potential buyers, Nvidia announced its own 4K streaming box today. Essentially, it is a new configuration of the Shield TV.

The Shield TV will sell for $179, which is the same price as Apple’s latest streaming box. However, there aren’t a tremendous amount of changes to the revamped Shield TV. The streaming box currently sells for $200, and it includes a remote and a game controller. And the new version of the product, which sells for $179, includes the same amount of storage – 16 GB – but it does not come with a game controller – just a remote.

With the lack of changes, it seems Nvidia is primarily focusing on the streaming crowd with the new version of the Shield TV. However, even with the price drop, it still might not be low enough to turn the Shield TV into the most attractive option for anyone thinking about getting into 4K.

The new version of Nvidia’s 4k model is available today, but it won’t start being shipped until October 18.
