By now, most people are aware that Amazon (NASDAQ:$AMZN) is looking for a destination to open its second head office. As of right now, over 100 cities and regions across North America have submitted a bid to become Amazon’s second headquarters, and now it looks like Vancouver, Canada has officially become one of them.
Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) has announced that it hand-delivered its bid package to Amazon in time for the October 19 submission deadline.
Some cities have chosen to release their bid books for public viewing, but Vancouver seems to be staying away from this strategy, with the VEC stating that it has no immediate plans to do the same. The Canadian city’s bid plans will not be released to the public until Amazon makes a decision on the second home city sometime next year.
VEC released a statement on the morning of October 21 which stated: “Out of respect for the RFP process, VEC and partners have opted to allow Amazon the courtesy of having the first glance at the Vancouver region’s proposal.”
For the most part, details are under wraps, but here’s what we do know about Vancouver’s bid so far:
- The bid is a regional bid
- There were no tax incentives proposed in the bid
- The bid focuses on the fact that Vancouver has a growing technology industry
