Google Down-Ranks Russian News Outlets, Russia Says it’s Censorship

    On Thursday, Russia’s foreign ministry said that Google’s (NASDAQ:$GOOGL) decision to place articles from Russian news outlets ‘Russia Today’ and ‘Sputnik’ towards the bottom of search results would amount to censorship.

    Last Saturday, while speaking at an international forum, Alphabet Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt talked about Sputnik articles appear on Google, saying the company is working to give less prominence to “those kinds of websites” rather than just delisting them.

    At a news brief on Thursday, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said Google was acting under heavy political pressure from the authorities in the U.S.
