Apple Uses 100% Renewable Energy

Apple Uses 100% Renewable Energy it was announced Monday. All of its global facilities are now powered by 100% renewable energy – this includes; retail stores, offices, data centers and co-located facilities in 43 countries, including the United States, China, and India.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been committed to combating climate change and creating a healthier environment for several years.

According to the company’s press release, all of Apple’s data centres have been powered by 100% renewable energy since 2014 and, since 2011, “all of Apple’s renewable energy projects have reduced greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) by 54 percent from its facilities worldwide and prevented nearly 2.1 million metric tons of CO2e from entering the atmosphere.”

And because Apple uses 100% renewable energy, 23 of it’s suppliers have also agreed to operate on 100% renewable energy.

Over 85 more suppliers have agreed to use Apple’s Clean Energy Portal, an online platform developed by Apple that will help suppliers identify renewable energy solutions around the world.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, has said that the company is “going to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the materials in our products, the way we recycle them, our facilities and our work with suppliers to establish new creative and forward-looking sources of renewable energy because we know the future depends on it.”

He further states that the company is proud to have reached this significant milestone after all the years of hard work that had been put into it.

Apple currently has a total of 25 operational energy projects around the world, which total 626 megawatts of generation capacity, and have 15 more projects in construction.

The projects all consist of several different renewable energy sources, such as “solar arrays and wind farms as well as emerging technologies like biogas fuel cells, micro-hydro generation systems and energy storage technologies.”
