Google reveals its latest toy today, a game-streaming service by the name of Stadia. Stadia is Google’s attempt at providing the masses with on-demand video games—and something tells me it’s going to be a successful attempt (who doesn’t love gaming?).
Stadia: Gaming on Another Level
Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) wants to make Stadia the “Netflix for games.” What’s the vision? To be able to play any game anywhere—mobile games on your PS4, Xbox games on your phone. Whatever device you want, Stadia will let you play your games on it.
But Stadia isn’t just for the benefit of gamers; it’s also here to help out game developers. The streaming service will allow developers a new way to get their games out there. Whether it’s through YouTube or Twitch streams, developers will be able to attach a play button to the video and users will be able to head straight into the game. Fast food games much?
For those of us who enjoy watching video game walkthroughs or live playthroughs (hands up), Stadia also has a Crowd Play feature, which lets the people watching livestreams of games jump into the stream and play with the host. I can definitely think of several streamers I would have fun badly playing online video games with (I’m looking at you Dead Meat!).

So whether you’re a gamer, stream-consumer, or developer, Stadia looks like it’s going to have a lot of tricks up its sleeves for you to partake in.
The Nitty Gritty
Stadia will first be coming to platforms in the US, Canada, Europe, and the UK, and yes, you heard right, it’s coming to those countries this year. To start with, Stadia will let you stream games in 4K, 60FPS, and HDR color, with support for up to 8K coming later.
Are you excited to start gaming with Stadia?
