Amazon Responds to Competition By Adopting Open-Source Cloud Technology

Open-Source Cloud Technology

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has begun using Kubernetes, a popular open-source technology, in response to increased competition in the cloud computing business.

Amazon Web Services has long dominated the cloud computing business, but things are heating up now with a crowding market sphere for cloud domination.

Amazon, it seems, has finally caved in order to keep up with customer needs. Its adoption of Kubernetes marks the first sign of Amazon really looking outside of its own world and seeing the benefit of what others are doing.

Kubernetes has become ever popular with companies as they build more applications on public clouds. Its main advantage is that it can run an application on any public cloud, from Microsoft’s Azure to Alphabet’s Google Cloud Platform. This makes it easier to move from one cloud vendor to another, which is what many customers end up doing.

Due to its growing popularity, and the increasing competition among cloud computing businesses, Amazon was left with very little choice but to adopt the open-source cloud technology offered by Kubernetes. Ultimately, Amazon wants to keep its customers happy (and buying), so this was probably the right move for the company, getting it back into the game of cloud services.
