Amazon’s Kindle Oasis has some new features. Not only is it waterproof, but it also supports Audible, for those that have a set of Bluetooth speakers or headphones handy. However, according to a listing on Amazon (NASDAQ:$AMZN), it appears that functionality will be rolling out to its cheapest Kindle model as well.

According to Kindle’s product page, it plans to support Audible “in the coming months.” Based on what we know so far, it seems it will do something similar to the Oasis. This means that because the device does not come with speakers, users will be required to pair the device with their own through Bluetooth. The product page notes that the new feature will be available as an over-the-air-update at some point in the future.

That said, it looks like it will only be the Kindle Oasis and the basic model that will get the update. If you have the Paperwhite Kindle or the Voyage, it will not support the Audible feature.

For those who don’t know, Amazon owns Audible, so the partnership between the Kindle and the audiobook company makes total sense, especially when you take into consideration the fact that audiobooks have become increasingly popular in recent years. Audible is both a seller and a producer of spoken audio entertainment. The company sells audio versions of newspaper and magazines, as well as digital audiobooks.
