Apple Removes Bing as Default Search Engine for Siri Web Search Results

Siri web search results

This just in! Apple (NASDAQ:$AAPL) has officially removed Bing as the default search engine for Siri web search results in both iOS and in Spotlight on the Mac. According to TechCrunch, the default search engine will switch to Google. In fact, the transition from Bing to Google has already begun to roll out to Mac and iPhone users, and if all goes as planned, the switch should be complete by this afternoon.

“Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari,” Apple announced to TechCrunch.

It is important to mention that Apple plans to keep Bing as the default search engine for images in Siri and Spotlight on Mac. Further, YouTube will continue to be in charge of video searches.

So, what caused the switch? Well, the move is thought to improve search results when Siri – a voice-activated feature – doesn’t have the answer to the question you have inquired about. Additionally, Google will become the default search engine for the iOS search bar. The move comes as Google remains by far the most popular search engine.
