Apple Signs Oprah Winfrey: TV Legend to Create Original Content

Apple Signs Oprah Winfrey – Apple is creating a new subscription video service in the hopes of making a name for itself in the world of original content. Now, the masses have been informed that Oprah Winfrey will be helping the tech giant achieve this goal.

Apple Signs Oprah Winfrey

On Friday, word surfaced that Apple has signed Oprah Winfrey in a multiyear deal. This is all part of Apple’s plans to become a lead provider of original content. Winfrey will be creating original programs, all of which will reportedly embrace her ability “to connect with audiences around the world.”

This is smart on Apple’s part. Winfrey has ruled TV for decades, and is known for forming relationships with her audience and inspiring them to do bigger and better things. One can only imagine how motivational and relevant these new original Apple programs will be.

Moreover, the Winfrey originals should help in giving Apple a competitive edge against, for instance, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX). Netflix is breaking boundaries in terms of original content, and just recently signed Shonda Rhimes – creator of Grey’s Anatomy – which is bound to do great things for Netflix’s ratings. However, Winfrey is just as, if not more, popular than Rhimes, so I think it’s safe to say a lot of people will be using Apple’s new streaming service, just so they can watch her original programs.

The Apple Stock (NASDAQ:AAPL)

Of course, ‘Apple signs Oprah Winfrey’ is already a trending headline, but are people actually excited about it, or are they just sharing the news? Well, according to Apple’s stock, it’s a little bit of both. The Apple stock ended the day down but is trading up in the after-hours session.

According to Google Finance, Apple ended the day down 1.03%. However, the AAPL stock is up 0.0053% in after-hours trade.
