In September, Tesla (NASDAQ:$TSLA) CEO Elon Musk announced that the company would be unveiling the heavy duty all-electric Tesla Semi truck on October 26th. He added that it was “tentatively” scheduled, thus leaving the door open to a date change if need be. Turns out that was a good call on Musk’s part.
On Friday, October 6, Musk tweeted that the unveiling date for the Tesla Semi is now scheduled for November 16th. As a point of reference, this marks a shift of roughly three weeks.
The Reasoning Behind The Rescheduling of the Tesla Semi
It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for the Palo-Alto-based auto manufacturing company. Instead of focusing on the Tesla Semi, Musk has announced that he would rather work on Model 3 bottlenecks and Puerto Rico battery production.
“Tesla Semi unveil Nov.16. Diverting resources to fix Model 3 bottlenecks & increase battery production for Puerto Rico & other affected areas,” Musk tweeted.
Musk has offered Tesla’s assistance in rebuilding Puerto Rico’s electric system after Hurricane Maria ripped through the island, leaving just 10% of the island with power. In response, the governor of Puerto Rico tweeted back to Musk saying he wanted to talk about it.
In regards to the Model 3 bottlenecks mentioned: Tesla planned to ship roughly 1,500 Model 3s in Q3 of 2017, however, Tesla announced on Monday that they ended up shipping only 260. Tesla claimed the shortfall was caused by production bottlenecks, and they noted that they “understand” the underlying issues and are “confident of addressing the manufacturing bottleneck issues in the near-term.”
