Over the weekend, Netflix lured television producer and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes away from ABC studios. Seeing as Rhimes is an extremely popular public figure in Hollywood, there’s a good chance Netflix (NASDAQ:$NFLX) is patting itself on the back right now.
Rhimes has signed a new multi-year agreement with the California-based entertainment company. We have yet to hear any financial details, but we do know that Rhimes’ company, Shondaland, will now act as an in-house studio.
For those who don’t know, Shonda Rhimes has been praised for her television shows, which include “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away with Murder,” and “Scandal.” Additionally, she is a renowned writer.
The news of the multi-year agreement should not come as a total surprise, as Netflix has been trying for quite some time to create its own productions and to decrease its dependence on other production companies.
However, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” fans don’t have any reason to worry! Though Shonda Rhimes will move to Netflix, these shows will continue to air on ABC.
All things considered, this announcement might be the push investors needed to start investing in entertainment stocks.
