Have you heard the good news? Voice assistant Alexa is now available in the Amazon Music app on both Android and iOS. Users in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Austria will be able to access the feature by hitting the Alexa button on the app.
Essentially, users will be able to ask Alexa to play music by mood, tempo, genre, activity, decade, and even lyrics (just in case you’ve forgotten the name of the song for instance) on the Amazon Music app. What’s the point, you ask? Well, the feature is designed for when users don’t have two free hands, or the attention required, to physically use their phones; or for those who have gotten into a habit of asking Alexa to play music in their homes. Alexa will respond to instructions such as: “play music for working out,” or “play Drake’s latest album.”
According to the Wall Street Journal, Alexa has overtaken mobile as the number one way Amazon Music customers listen to music. Even though Amazon (NASDAQ:$AMZN) remains third in the music subscription market, the WSJ reports that music companies around the globe are watching out for Alexa as they believe it could make Amazon’s music services extremely competitive.
As of right now, there is no word on when the feature will roll out to other countries.
