Amazon is Close to Breaking Sales Record for Prime Day 2017

Prime Day

Amazon’s 2017 Prime Day only commenced this morning but already the Washington-based company is saying that its Prime Day sale is on track to be the biggest shopping event in its history by sales.

Amazon Inc. (NASDAQ:$AMZN) has reported that customers have ordered more than three times as many Echo family speakers than last year’s Prime Day. Additionally, the company disclosed that third-parties sold over 50% on its sites by noon local time than in the same time period in 2016. Altogether, the news highlights the winning formula of Amazon’s shopping club Prime, which is the cornerstone of its business.

In order to get discounts during Amazon Prime Day – which is a 30-hour event – customers had to join Amazon Prime. Members that reside in the United States pay $99 per year for benefits, and with their membership, these Prime members tend to purchase more goods, more often from Amazon. Additionally, Amazon added a timer that shows when the deals would expire which helped to add further shopping encouragement.
