FreeTime Unlimited iOS: Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has at long last added its popular kid’s app Amazon FreeTime Unlimited to the iOS store.
FreeTime Unlimited iOS
FreeTime Unlimited is an Amazon subscription service app for kids aged 3-12 that provides access to thousands of books, movies, and TV shows. Content includes Disney stuff, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, and much more.
The app has already been out for five and half years, but it has only been available on Amazon and Android devices. Now, though, FreeTime Unlimited is finally out for iOS, available on the Apple App store, reports Techcrunch.
Amazon explained that new products and features are launched when they’re ready, so I guess it took Amazon a while to get around to adding the app on Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Seems like the timing was apt, though, given other media companies that are now releasing kid-friendly products. This includes Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) releasing a kid’s version of its Messenger service, which allows for greater parental control.
To be fair, FreeTime Unlimited wasn’t released for Android devices until last year.

Why the Delay?
It probably doesn’t come as a surprise to most for an Amazon app to be delayed in getting put onto Apple devices. Amazon and Apple have been long-time rivals in many aspects, including hardware competition (the iPad vs. the Amazon Kindle for things like ebooks).
The two companies’ rivalry may have played a role in the delay of getting FreeTime Unlimited onto iOS devices. No doubt many negotiations went back and forth before they could come to an agreement.
Now that it’s on the Apple App store, whether Amazon likes it or not, Apple is going to be taking a cut of the $2.99 monthly subscription fee. Hopefully, for Apple users, that doesn’t mean that Amazon is going to raise the price.
