In Toronto, hundreds of Palestinians gathered on both Saturday and Sunday outside a courtside on University Avenue, directly across from the U.S. consulate, to protest President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
For those who don’t know, Trump disclosed last week that the American embassy in Israel would be moving from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a decision that instantly sparked a tremendous amount of backlash.
On Sunday, Rashad Saleh, who is with The Canadian Palestinian Council, spoke to a crowd of roughly 150 people, asking that world leaders use their platform to condemn Trump’s actions.
“Without Jerusalem, there is no Palestine, there are no Palestinians,” Saleh said.
Over the weekend, the crowd of people protesting Trump’s latest action could be seen holding both Palestinian and Canadian flags, as well as signs that read: “Trump Embassy in Jerusalem…stupid idea,” and “End the occupation.”
The crowd was also reported as chanting “The people united will never be defeated.”
One protester was Dana Shanti, who is only 15 years old. She told reporters that she wanted to “stand in unity, so we can spread the right message, not what the media is saying about us.”
