Macy’s Plans to Hire 18,000 Workers This Holiday Season

    Looking for a job in the retail sector? Well, Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:$M) plans to hire more workers this holiday season at its distribution centers and warehouses in order to support its online business. It is important to mention that Macy’s is operating 70 fewer stores than it operated in 2016.

    On Thursday, September 14, the Ohio-based department store operator announced that it will be hiring a total of 18,000 workers to fulfill online orders, like shipping and packaging, up 20% from 2016.

    In total, Macy’s plans to hire roughly 80,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season. For perspective, this is down from 83,000 in 2016.

    Interestingly, Macy’s news comes just one day after Target (NYSE:$TGT)—one of the company’s main competitors—announced that it plans to hire 43% more seasonal workers (100,000 workers) for the holiday season.

    For the fiscal year ending in January, Macy’s forecasts its sales to drop between the range of 3.2% to 4.3%, with comparable store sales dropping 2% to 3%.
