Messenger Kids available in Canada and Peru

Messenger Kids Available in Canada and Peru: In December, Facebook did something a little different. It rolled out a standalone app, targeted at kids (13 and under); the app is called Messenger Kids.

Almost as soon as Messenger Kids went live, child advocacy groups flooded Facebook, claiming the app is “harmful to children and teens.”

Instead of discontinuing the app like many had hoped, we are now seeing the news of Messenger Kids available in Canada and Peru.

Since the initial launch of Messenger Kids, Facebook has restricted its use to only within the United States. Until today, that is.

On Friday, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) announced that it will be expanding Messenger Kids to both Canada and Peru. With this, the Messenger Kids app will now have two new language options: French and Spanish.

Are People Happy with the Messenger Kids Roll Out?

No one specifically from Canada or Peru has come forward – yet – to say that they don’t want Messenger Kids available in their country.

However, we can look at what people have said in the past. The general consensus appears to be that children at 13 (or under 13) should not have excessive exposure to social media platforms. And an entire application dedicated to that demographic counts as excessive exposure.

In January, different organizations reached out to Facebook, asking for the app to be discontinued. They called Messenger Kids “irresponsible.”

Even though parents are not a fan of the application, marking it as unsafe for kids, Facebook has taken the measures to provide safety. There are no in-ads on the platform, and parents are eligible to manage and control their kid’s profile, and who they speak to on Messenger Kids.

The Stock Price Speaks a Thousand Words

The market seems to be reacting positively to the news of Messenger Kids available in Canada and Peru. That assumption is based on the fact that the FB stock is up 0.24% right now.
