Mexican Caravan: Military Will Guard US-Mexico Border

Mexican Caravan

United States President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that members of the military will be guarding the border between the US and Mexico, in an attempt to stop illegal immigration into the US via a Mexican caravan of over 1000 people.

He recently took to Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) about how “the big Caravan of People from Honduras, now coming across Mexico and heading to our “Weak Laws” Border, had better be stopped before it gets there. Cash cow NAFTA is in play, as is foreign aid to Honduras and the countries that allow this to happen. Congress MUST ACT NOW!”

The caravan consisted of nearly 1,500 people migrating from the poorest parts of Central America – Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, in search of a better life. It was found and broken up by the Mexican government, with some 400 people being sent back home and others returning to Mexico. Hundreds are still waiting at the border unsure of what will happen next. Trump’s response to this? He also tweeted “they did it because [he] said, frankly, [the Mexican government] really had to do it.”

During a meeting with leaders from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, Trump said that he had already been in talks with US Defense Secretary, Jim Mattis.

Trump’s border wall plans fell through when it was realized that there would not be enough funding for it, but believes that the military is the best step until a wall and better security can be formed.

According to a recent article from Bloomberg, Trump would not be the first president to send military troops to the US-Mexico border.

George W. Bush and Barack Obama also sent US troops to guard the border as an additional security measure during their presidencies.

Trump’s most recent tweet regarding the US-Mexico border says that the US “WILL PROTECT [THEIR] SOUTHERN BORDER!”

He also voices his concern regarding the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and how he believes that it would be a bad deal for America.
