Is Trump Considering a Veto of the Omnibus Spending Bill?

Omnibus Spending Bill

President Donald Trump just did something that I don’t think anyone was expecting. And for those wondering, no, I’m not talking about his support for arming teachers in American schools. His latest rant involved the Omnibus Spending Bill.

Trump Takes to Twitter to Discuss Omnibus Spending Bill

On Friday, in the early hours of the morning, President Trump announced that he might veto the Omnibus Spending Bill. For those who don’t know, this is the $1.3 trillion spending bill that was passed by Congress this morning. The aim of the spending bill is to increase military funding as well as domestic spending. However, based on this morning’s tweets, Trump doesn’t appear to be happy with the Omnibus Spending Bill.

Why Does Trump Want to Veto the Omnibus Spending Bill?

Officials have stated that Trump is enraged about the bill, and while one official stated that “He doesn’t like it,” that same official also stated that Trump was more so ranting than actually considering a veto. It could be argued that the damage has already been done, however, and people around the globe are wondering what Trump’s next move will be.

In the tweet, Trump cited that his problems with the bill are that legislation does not include the following: adequate funding for his oh-so-famous border wall, or a solution for recipients of the DACA program.

It’s not just the general public that is divided between this argument of to veto, or not to veto. While Marc Short, White House legislative affairs director, doesn’t appear to be worried by the tweet, stating to CNN that he thinks “we’ll be OK,” others are rooting for Trump to go through with the veto. By others, I mean Republican Senator Bob Corker. Corker, who voted against the Omnibus Spending Bill, replied to Trump’s tweet, essentially saying that Trump should veto the bill and he is down the street and will bring him a pen. Corker even went as far as calling the bill “totally irresponsible.”

This announcement comes one day after Trump hit China with $50 billion in new tariffs, causing many to fear that we are on the verge of a global trade war.

Now that we are in a sort of limbo, it’s going to be crucial for the public to follow along over the next week to see if Trump will really go ahead with the veto.
