Last week, the U.S. Energy Information Administration released a report which illustrated that the United States has reached an environmental breakthrough in the first third of 2017, as energy derived from renewable sources exceeded nuclear power production for the first time since 1984.

That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for renewable energy

Essentially this news means that renewables are now the second largest means of energy output in the United States after fossil fuels. This is an important milestone in light of Trump’s lack of interest for the technology, of which removing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord was symptomatic.

This new development corresponds with other global statistics, which show a promising global trend towards making the world greener. Just recently, the United Kingdom generated over 50% of their weekly energy from green power sources, while the entire Qinghai Province in China used nothing but renewable energy for 7 days, and Germany generated 85% of their power using renewable sources in just one day.

As the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and it is only through milestones such as these that the world will become greener. And, in a time where we are verging the tipping point of being able to save the planet from human-made climate change, these international achievements have never been more vital.
