Technology has made things that were once a hassle easy and effortless. It has transformed our roadways, jobs, means of communication, and just about everything else in life. Now, technology will lace your own shoes for you. Yes, that’s right, no more bending over to tie your shoelaces. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) has just released the specs of its new shoe the Nike Adapt BB.

The shoes are specifically geared towards basketball, hence the ‘BB.’ The new Adapt BB has its own app. Nike has claimed to have a long dream of creating its own auto-lacing smart shoe, and they’ve launched just that. In addition to the self-lacing show, it also seeks to adapt to the wearer’s feet.

The last few years, Nike has been adding tech to their shoes to track steps, in hopes of enhancing athletic performance. Now, it seeks to create a smart shoe. Nike claims that the first test to its Nike Adapt BB will be tested on the basketball court, with hopes to expand to other sports and lifestyle wear.

“We picked basketball as the first sport for Nike Adapt intentionally because of the demands that athletes put on their shoes,” says Eric Avar, Nike VP Creative Director of Innovation. “During a normal basketball game the athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience.”

The shoes are connected with a new platform and app created by Nike called Nike Adapt. Nike is accepting preorders for the shoes today, but they will officially go on sale through Nike stores and online on February 17th. The Nike Adapt BB shoes will be selling for $350 USD.
