Senator Bob Corker is not happy with President Trump, and he doesn’t care who knows it.
On Tuesday, Corker said Donald Trump is an “utterly untruthful” president. This comes as his feud with the president raged across the TV and various social media sites, such as Twitter (NYSE:$TWTR). The two authoritative figures have continued to lash out at one another as Trump prepared to make a visit to Capitol Hill for a lunch with a number of GOP senators to talk about their plans for tax reform.
When the president arrived, a protestor bellowed “Trump is treason”, and threw small Russian flags at him as he passed.
Corker, who is the chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, said leaders of the world are “very aware” that much of what Trump said “is untrue.” Corker told CNN that Trump is “debasing our nation” and “has great difficulty with the truth on many issues.”
The Republican – who is retiring – said “the most important service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months,” adding that, Trump is “obviously not going to rise to the occasion as president.”
Trump’s presidential tenure will be remembered, Bob Corker said, for “the debasing of our nation, the constant non-truth telling, the name-calling. It’s very sad for our nation.”
Following Corker’s interview with NBC’s Today, Trump hit back with the first of a series of tweets, saying that Corker “couldn’t get elected dog-catcher in Tennessee.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Trump and Corker have not seen eye to eye. In the past, Trump has called Corker “Liddle’ [sic] Bob Corker”.
