President Donald Trump is back making headlines – and this time, it involves his thoughts on TIME magazine’s annual Person of the Year award.
On Friday, Trump claimed that he “passed” on being named TIME’s Person of the Year, saying that he was “probably” going to be honored again (he was named Person of the Year in 2016), but that he needed to agree on an interview and a “major photo shoot.”
“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”
To no surprise, Trump’s claim that he took a “pass” on being named 2017’s man of the year got slammed over the weekend on various social media outlets.
Even TIME challenged Trump’s tweet, saying the president is “incorrect” about the selection process: “The president is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. Time does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.”
After TIME disputed the tweet, social media users joked that the magazine was sugar-coating the fact that Trump lied about “probably” being chosen as 2017’s Person of the Year.
