Whether you’re a sci-fi lover, or you’re just looking to start investing in technology, you might want to pay close attention to the information below.
The CEO of Finnish mobile game developer Next Games, Teemu Huuhtanen, disclosed on Wednesday that Next Games and Alcon Entertainment, an American film production company, have united to develop a mobile game for Blade Runner 2049. So not only are we getting a new Blade Runner movie, we are also getting a mobile game to go along with it. I can already hear sci-fan fanatics around the world screaming from excitement, can’t you? The new mobile game was announced at the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo, however, the companies did not comment about the title or when the mobile game will be released. That said, we’re going to work with what we’ve got, so without further ado, let’s dive into the known details about the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 mobile game.
Blade Runner 2049 will now be a mobile game.
The California-based film company, Alcon, is currently producing the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic, “Blade Runner”. The sequel will be called “Blade Runner 2049” and Warner Brothers will be given the domestic distribution, while Sony Global will be in charge of handling international regions. So far we know that the cast will include Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, who played Rick Deckard (the Blade Runner) in the original film. As of right now, the movie will premier on October 6, 2017. Commenting on the news, Teemu Huuhtanen said:
“We are thrilled to work on Blade Runner, a true pop culture icon. We are determined to deliver on Blade Runner’s unique themes and vision of the future. Both we and Alcon Entertainment value mobile games that are authentic and true to the original property. Our partnership is a confirmation of Next Game’s mission to redefine the way entertainment franchises can be transformed into, and enhanced by, highly engaging mobile games enjoyed by millions of fans globally.”
Elaborating further, Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, the co-founders of Alcon Entertainment, reported that, “We are excited to be working with Next Games on this exciting new endeavor. The world of Blade Runner is uniquely rich ground for storytelling across a variety of platforms, games included.”
What we know so far is that Blade Runner 2049 will take place roughly thirty years after the original movie took place back in 1982. Ryan Gosling has been cast as the LAPD Officer K who discovers an ancient secret which has the potential to flood what remains of society. This kicks off an adventure as Officer K (Ryan Gosling) sets out to find the former blade runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who has been missing for thirty years.
As mentioned, there has been no indication as to when the game will officially be released, but both companies did tease a screenshot of the Blade Runner 2049 mobile game to the audience at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
For now, this is all that has been made known to the public about the game. So what do you think about Blade Runner 2049 coming to mobile?
