Blackberry To Shut App Store Down In 2019

Blackberry

While there are small doubts about Blackberry (NYSE:BB) ever shutting down its mobile platforms, it is currently giving very subtle hints that it may be time to move on. The last BB10 device that was shipped was well over two years ago, and they just announced that by the end of 2019 it will shut down BlackBerry 10 and its OS services. When 2020 rolls around, the Passport or Classic will not have a place to download software.

It’s not completely devastating, however, as users still have “at least” two years of BB10 support. If you still need to use the device for work or to reminisce about older times, there is still time to transition. The timeline isn’t a big shock as the company does not want to keep supporting its rapidly shrinking user base. However, it’s a sad day for BlackBerry enthusiasts. More specifically the working class that uses it primarily as work phones.

No matter how attached you may be, you’ll likely have to make the switch within two years time.
