To put it lightly, if you haven’t heard of James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’, you’re living under a rock.
Now, with Corden’s popularity, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:$AAPL) hopes viewers will pay for Apple Music as it plans to launch a new show called “Carpool Karaoke: The Series.” On August 3, Apple shared yet another trailer for its upcoming original television show. The clip features Corden and Will Smith singing an abundance of songs, one of which includes the beloved theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, August 8. After the premiere, Apple plans to release new episodes on a weekly basis. In total, there are 16 half-hour episodes, all of which will be exclusive to Apple Music subscribers. Unlike Corden’s original ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment, each episode will feature a different host and celebrity pairing.
When asked about the upcoming show, Apple senior VP of internet software and services Eddy Cue said, “It’s about the artist and the songs that are being sung, just to get a little behind-the-scenes of their personalities and some of their thoughts.” He added, “it fits very, very nicely within Apple Music.”
Interested? Just keep in mind Apple Music costs $9.99 a month for an individual membership. For people who signed up to Apple Music in June, the “Carpool Karaoke” series might be the push they needed to convince them to pay the full membership price.
