Garmin Teams Up with Amazon to Produce New Smart Speaker

New Smart Speaker

Garmin (NASDAQ:GRMN) has teamed up with Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) to produce a speaker device with smart technology, to be distributed to the automotive market. Garmin’s Speak technology will be paired with Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant.

With the dual-teamed speaker, drivers will be able to use Speak to receive news reports, weather, and traffic reports, all through voice command. Speak will also allow drivers to remotely access and control smart appliances in their home while on the road.

According to Juniper Research, smart voice-based devices will be installed in 55% of US households by the year 2020, while eMarketer estimates that the use of voice-enabled speakers will increase a whopping 130% this year alone in the US.

Voice-based speakers, already becoming a part of the home, are expanding rapidly into the automotive market as well, no doubt thanks to and a result of, the increasing amount of automotive voice-control devices coming out.

So far, Amazon is coming out on top in regards to voice-enabled devices. According to eMarketer, Amazon will control 70.6% of the US voice-enabled speaker market this year, whereas Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has 23.8%. As a result of the large market space hoarded by Amazon, Garmin’s Speak may be able to take over the automotive market thanks to its partnership.
