Former President Barack Obama just touched the hearts of an entire online community. On August 12, Obama reacted to the attack in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Twitter (NYSE:$TWTR). And now, it is the most liked tweet ever on the social network.
Instead of placing blame, Obama simply tweeted a quote from Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography “Long Walk to Freedom” which said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
To top it off, Obama’s tweet was accompanied by a photograph of him greeting a group of children – all of whom are from different ethnic backgrounds – through a window in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2011.
One cannot help but compare the reactions between Obama and President Donald Trump. When Obama first tweeted his reaction, it caught the attention of millions and his message was very clear. However, when Trump reacted to the violent protests in the college town, it sparked controversy and created a Twitter storm.
A Twitter spokesperson told CNN that Obama’s Charlottesville tweet has been liked more than 3 million times, thus making it the most liked tweet of all time.
