Tesla May Not Have the First Electric Truck to Reach the Market

Electric Truck

We’ve been hearing a lot about the Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) all-electric semi truck and the many orders it’s been receiving from big companies like Budweiser and Peps, but Tesla may have competition in that arena and it may be falling behind.

A company called Thor Trucks (private) also has an all-electric semi truck on the way, called the ET1, and, unlike Tesla, the trucks are already in production.

The ET1 is similar to Tesla’s truck in that it wants to bring a cleaner-running transportation to heavy industry without slackening on the performance.

Thor Trucks is a small company, consisting of only 18 employees, but it’s enough to mark their place in the market, especially if they get their trucks out first.

The ET1 is generating a lot of buzz, with people spotting it being driven around Hollywood and jumping at the chance to snap a picture of the truck that “everyone thinks [is like] a Transformer.” The truck has a 22-inch touchscreen on its dashboard and a futuristic look to it with its winged black logo gracing the front grille and the smooth tinted edges surrounding the cabin. The ET1 can carry as much as 80,000 pounds of cargo and is set to ship in 2019 (whereas Tesla still has an unknown production and ship date).
