Trump Changes Story on Why He Fired Michael Flynn as National Security Adviser

On Saturday, President Trump changed his story regarding the reasons why he fired Michael Flynn as his national security adviser. Apparently, Trump now claims that he was aware that Flynn had lied to both Vice President Mike Pence and the FBI about his contacts with Russia during last year’s presidential election.

For those who don’t know, lying to the FBI is a serious crime, and it is one that Flynn plead guilty to on Friday while agreeing to cooperate with the ongoing Russia investigation.

As per usual, Trump took to Twitter to announce his new explanation, stating:

“I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!”

To no surprise, Twitter users were quick to call out the president, suggesting that if he fired his national security adviser for lying to the FBI then he knew that he had done something unlawful.
