Trump Gives White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon the Boot

Trump

President Donald Trump made yet another headline today. On Friday, according to The New York Times, the decision was made to remove White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. This might be surprising to some as Bannon was the nationalist firebrand who helped to fuel Trump’s rise to presidency.

The New York Times noted that both Trump and his top aides “were debating when and how to dismiss” Bannon. That said, the president could have decided to keep Bannon in the job “for some time,” the newspaper said.

So, what made the president decide to give Bannon the boot? Well, the president has reportedly grown very angry with Bannon and the White House chief strategist’s influence diminished. It’s not overly surprising to hear that Trump is angry with Bannon, as the chief strategist criticized Trump’s North Korea position and apparently fueled some of the leaks designed to hurt White House colleagues. And from what we know about Trump, contradicting and criticizing him only adds fuel to the flame.

For those who don’t know, Bannon is thought to be influential in Trump’s proposals to improve free trade deals and crack down on immigration. Additionally, he was striving to reduce the government’s regulatory reach.

Even though Trump might have justifiable reasons for firing Bannon, the chief strategist’s departure comes at a difficult time for the Trump administration, as it is currently hemorrhaging board members.
