Trump Lands in Japan; Says the U.S. “Will Never Yield” to Enemies

Trump

President Trump and first lady Melania arrived in Japan early this morning. This stop marks the president’s first leg on his marathon tour of East Asia.

After Trump landed, he delivered a number of remarks to a crowd of a couple thousand soldiers. The president warned America’s enemies – North Korea in particular – that the United States “will never yield, never waver and never falter in defense of our people.”

“American soldiers are prepared to defend their nation using the full range of our unmatched capabilities,” Trump said at Yokota Air Base. “No one- no dictator, no regime, and no nation – should underestimate, ever, American resolve.” He added that those who have underestimated the United States in the past, “it was not pleasant for them.”

It was evident that the president was nudging North Korea as he spoke to the crowd of American and Japanese troops stationed at the base in Western Tokyo.

Now that Trump has landed in Tokyo, he has plans to golf this afternoon with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The first lady will be joining Mrs. Abe for tea and an afternoon filled with cultural activities.

Tokyo is the president’s first overseas stop on a 12-day race around the region. Before he heads back to the United States, Trump will travel to China, Vietnam, South Korea, and the Philippines.
