On Thursday, September 14, aboard Air Force One, President Trump praised Janet Yellen, the Fed Chair, during a brief conversation with reporters. However, many are still left wondering: Will Trump reappoint Yellen or won’t he?
One could say it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride as of late. One minute the preisdent is hinting that Yellen will be reappointed, and the next he is suggesting to others that he is on the hunt for her successor. Plus, as a candidate for president, Trump repeatedly scrutinized Yellen, going as far as saying that the Fed’s low-rate policies during her tenure lead to a “false stock market.” However, on Thursday, Trump told reporters that he “respects” her, adding that “the stock market is doing very well.”
“I like her and I respect her, but I haven’t made that decision yet.”
For those who don’t know, the Fed Chair is responsible for the official committee that decides the direction of interest rates.
