Trump Promises to Veto Bernie Sanders’ Single-Payer Health Plan If Need Be

single-payer

President Trump said that Bernie Sanders’ proposed plan to eventually have Medicare cover the healthcare needs of all Americans is “a curse on the U.S.” He went on to say that he would veto the plan, if need be. However, Trump also noted that he warned fellow Republicans in Congress that they would be faced with the threat of such a single-payer health plan if they did not quickly terminate Obamacare.

Trump’s tweets were posted on Thursday, September 14, just one day after Sanders — a Vermont independent — launched his “Medicare for All” plan.

Regardless of the fact that Sanders has been joined by 16 Democratic senators as co-sponsors of the bill, there doesn’t seem to be much of a chance that Trump will be forced to follow through on his promise to veto the plan anytime soon.

Here’s some numbers to help you understand what’s going on:

– Tens of millions of people in the United States get coverage through Medicare, for primarily senior citizens, and Medicaid, which helps to serve poor people.

– Millions get health-care coverage through a job or an insurance plan that was purchased privately.

– 28.1 million Americans lacked any form of health insurance coverage in 2016.
