Trump Reportedly Set to Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

Jerusalem

It has been announced that President Donald Trump is likely to make a speech on Wednesday recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is significant news as it could overturn decades of American Policy as well as increase tensions in the Middle East.

According to two administration officials, Trump is debating whether or not to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and that he was forecasted to delay – again – his 2016 presidential campaign promise to move the United States embassy there.

For those who don’t know, the Palestinians are hoping to make East Jerusalem the capital of their future state, while the international community does not acknowledge Israel’s claim on the city.

A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared that if the United States were to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, it would “destroy the peace process” and “destabilize the region.”

With that being said, this move could help to benefit the pro-Israel, ring-wing base that aided Trump during the election.
