Trump pardon himself: On Sunday, Rudy Giuliani, a member of Donald Trump’s legal team, spoke with NBC, and discussed a variety of topics. One of those topics included President Donald Trump and his right to pardon himself. Giuliani made a few comments, all of which seemed to suggest that Trump might have the authority to do so, but it would “probably lead to immediate impeachment.”
Can Trump Pardon Himself?
Now Trump has hit back. While he didn’t mention Giuliani specifically, Trump did tweet on Monday that he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself—an act that he has done for many others over the course of the past couple of weeks. Trump also reiterated what Giuliani had said in his tweet, pointing that he doesn’t have a reason to pardon himself because he hasn’t done anything wrong. (Debatable, Mr. Trump; but I’ll let the professionals handle that.)
It looks like Trump is going to continue to “not doing anything wrong,” too. Why? Because the president’s legal team is very evidently trying to rid any attempt of making Trump stand in front a grand jury.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Trump continues to pardon others in the next couple weeks. Last week, he used his power to pardon – for the 6th time – to pardon Dinesh D’Souza. Then, he said he was thinking about doing the same for Martha Stewart. Speaking of the people Trump has pardoned, many are now speculating that Trump is only offering pardons to those who have dirt on him.

If that’s true, I’m certain we will see more pardons given throughout the month. Not only that but if that is the reason Trump pardoned these people in May, then it’s clear Trump is only thinking of himself. Last week, he met with Kim Kardashian West about granting Alice Marie Johnson clemency, a woman sentenced to life in prison for a minor drug charge, a woman who had no priors; an African-American woman. There has been no word about whether Mrs. Johnson will be granted clemency, but Trump did announce a few days after the meeting with Mrs. Kardashian West that he was thinking of pardoning Martha Stewart.
Check back in next week for more Trump news.
